Boxed markers were usually great, but openstock was Russian roulette when it came to getting working markers, particularly at craft stores like Michaels, where the marker stock often goes ignored. Good Prismacolor markers can last a long time (recently we went through Heidi Black's massive marker collection, and found many markers that were 10+ years old and still working well), but I wanted something refillable that featured replaceable nibs. I need consistency in my markers.

I personally believe that any non-refillable open stock marker is a crapshoot, and I generally advise against it, just on principle, and always recommend consumers test markers before purchasing. Having gotten used to Copic's Superbrush, all other brush options have a tough challenge, but Prismacolor's ArtBrush is pretty decent.

I would say for me, the refill-ability and the ability to change out nibs is worth the extra money, but I can see how others might not find it worthwhile.Becca Hillburnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07105718152078435585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-794518577624287475.post-48506918113032936352013-05-21T12:30:13.727-05:002013-05-21T12:30:13.727-05:00I just recently got some prismacolor brush markers...I just recently got some prismacolor brush markers online for 2.39 a pop-I can't find anything for Copics under the 4.79 number. Pretty impressed with the inclusion of the Kuru Toga, though after several months of using mine, I've concluded that it's a pencil better suited for an engineer or a writer and not an artist because, at least for me, the way I sketch with it means that the rotating mechanism in the pencil isn't triggered very frequently and the lead still gets filed down at a sharp angle. Still, as a pretty specialized pencil, I'm pleased to see it here, especially since that palette knife makes me scooooffffff.Kirihttp://kiriska.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-794518577624287475.post-91165711163694683222013-05-13T12:39:59.296-05:002013-05-13T12:39:59.296-05:00That would be a pretty good idea! Plaids are really just a series of stripes and the same series of stripes rotated to be perpendicular to the first. In most plaids the stripes are symmetrical because the stripe pattern is strung and woven on the loom foreword and backward (if your stripe pattern is green blue green purple the loom is strung green blue green purple purple green blue green).
The diagonal breaks you see in stripes of plaids are a result of how the fabric is woven. Plaids are traditionally woven in a basic twill weave which means a thread passes over 2 threads and then under 2 threads. The next thread does the same but is staggered one thread over which creates a diagonal effect. This diagonal pattern runs in the same direction for an entire piece of cloth no matter whether the stripe is a horizontal one or a vertical one.
You can integrate these facts into your own art by remembering to draw the horizontal and vertical strips of a plaid identically in the pattern of stripe widths and colors and having the diagonal grain of your plaids go in the same direction for the whole piece of cloth.Dreamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01412447819828301892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-794518577624287475.post-89619787309974131362013-03-23T00:10:23.317-05:002013-03-23T00:10:23.317-05:00This comment has been hidden from the blog.Battyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09537656358398584367noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-794518577624287475.post-49981215852670783662013-03-22T01:12:24.342-05:002013-03-22T01:12:24.342-05:00These stuffs are really cool. Particularly if the table assignment process doesn't go their way. They tend to express the idea that because they're popular they should get a table over someone else who also followed the rules.

I have a very quiet, tiny online presence that I constantly struggle to expand, and yet, am often exuberant when people ask me questions about my work or what I do to generate interest... and can't understand how an increase in interest in my work would "threaten" the more established, more popular artists, and yet, that's the impression I get whenever I try to inquire about other artists efforts at publicity or increasing interest.

You're absolutely right, we *are* the community we participate in... and many times, I'm rather saddened by the community I see.
